Wings Field
At their June 6, 2006 meeting, the Board of Supervisors gave preliminary approval to a land development plan for construction of a 3.29 +/- acre itinerant apron (airplane parking) at Wings Field. The Wings Field position paper on the development is here.Wings Field is a pre-existing non-conforming use in a R-5 zoning district. Whitpain Township ordinance states that non-conforming uses may be expanded by up to 25%. The Board decided, by a 4-1 vote, that the proposed expansion would not bring Wings over the 25% limit. A group of residents organized as "Wings Concerned Residents" (WCR) disagreed with the Board's determination and filed an appeal in Common Pleas Court, case # 200616407. To learn more about WCR and their position regarding Wings Field, please e-mail wingsconcernedresidents@comcast.net.
Left undecided within the preliminary approval was whether Wings would be required to install sidewalks and, if so, to what extent they would be required. That matter is currently under review by Township staff and will be decided by the Board at a future meeting, likely after the appeal has run its course.
